Sun-Day Celebration

What is Sun Day?

Sun Day is a national day of action on September 21, 2025 - the Fall Equinox - celebrating solar and wind power, and growing the movement to build a cleaner, healthier future. The clean energy revolution is here. Solar, wind and batteries are the cheapest form of power on the planet, lowering costs, creating new jobs, and strengthening our communities.

Here in Cowley County, we are celebrating a whole month of fun with the Sun!

How can you participate?

Throughout the county, merchants are getting involved by featuring sun-related items all month long. Explore how you can participate below:

Events:

  • At the Walnut Valley Festival campers will have chances to win solar equipment, and are invited to display the local SunDay emblem at their campsites. Winfield Arts and Humanities Council will be a partner at the children's activity area at the Walnut Valley Festival to make solar t-shirt designs!

After worship, stick around for a potluck luncheon where we will celebrate Sunday with more music and a short presentation on why Grace UMC engages in “Creation Care” through solar energy. Come join in the fun, bring a friend and join the spirit of Bluegrass celebrating SunDay!

  • We the People of South Central Kansas is sponsoring a Sun Walk on Sunday, September 21 at Memorial Park, 4:00 - 5:30. Bring your sunny smiles or signs that support a viable future for life on Earth. This is not a protest, but a rally in support of plentiful clean energy from our sun, open to all!
