The Marquee Performing Arts Center will offer a showing of the 2019 legal thriller Dark Waters as an Earth Day contribution for the community. Based on the true story of tenacious attorney Rob Bilott (played by Mark Ruffalo), it follows Bilott as he takes a stand against giant chemical corporation, Du Pont, whose manufacturing activities have been poisoning a small West Virginia town. Bilott uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths to the corporation. While trying to expose the truth and hold the corporation accountable, he risks his own professional future, his family and his life.
This must-see classical American tragedy courses with sorrow, but never hopelessness. “It’s as good as a factual-historical drama gets.” (Showtime Movie Review January 2021.)
Co-starring Anne Hathaway as Bilott’s wife Sarah, the star-studded cast makes this film worth seeing. Join us in the lobby of the historic Marquee theater, Friday April 22, 2022 (Earth Day). Doors open at 7:00 pm. The movie starts at 7:30. The Marquee PAC board is asking for a $10 admission donation. Concessions will be available by donation as well.
Following the show, there will be discussion opportunities about the film itself, as well as its relevance to today’s world, and parallel concerns in other locations around the country.
